Coronavirus: UK case rises are 'concerning', says minister - Flaze News

The UK is entering a "period of particular concern" as the number of coronavirus cases rise across the country, the housing secretary says.

Robert Jenrick said "we all have to be very cautious" after 2,948 new UK cases were recorded on Monday.

It comes after two of the government's scientific advisers gave stark warnings over the rise in cases.

England's deputy chief medical officer, Prof Jonathan Van Tam, said the increase was of "great concern".

Virus cases were "increasing exponentially", according to another member of the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage), Prof John Edmunds.

On Sunday 2,988 new cases were announced, which was the highest figure since 22 May.

  • Case rise expected, challenge is limiting deaths.
  • What should I do to stay safe and stop the spread?
  • Mr. Jenrick told BBC Breakfast: "The virus is still very much with us, it's still concerning."

He said if people followed the government's guidance "we should be able to continue to control the virus but we're going to have to be especially cautious as we go into the autumn and winter".

"If we all play our own part then we should be able to maintain our daily lives in this sort of new normal but we've got to be very cautious because, as you've seen, the number of cases is rising."

Professor Edll, from the London School of Hygiene and Medical Medicine, told Robert Piston of the ATO that the r-number-which had increased the capacity of 19 to spread the rate- "the top one" - so the UK was in a "dangerous period".

So I don't think we've hit this sweet spot where we've been able to overcome it and allow the economy to return to normal, he said.

Professor Edminster, who has already said that Britain had gone to the national lock-up before, told him that cases are growing at a slower level but "are growing rapidly" .

Earlier on Monday, Professor Wayne You described the latest change in the infection of the coronavirus across the UK.

"People are much more comfortable. It's time for us to reengage, and realize that this is a constant threat to us," he said.

Professor Van Tum added that hospital admissions and deaths were "very low" in the UK and the increase in these incidents was the most significant in the ages between 17 and 21, but some EU countries also have the country's risks after the pace.

He said that for Britain , "a bumpy ride will be over the next few months" if people did not follow the rules of the social era more stringently.

His comments have warned Health Secretary Matt Hancock young people that the UK could see a second spike in the Coronavirus cases if they do not follow the rules.

"Don't kill your green by catching the Coronavirus and then approve it," he told BBC Radio 1's News.

Meanwhile, council leaders in north-east England have said that the average number of new cases in the region has nearly doubled from 80 in just one week.

A joint statement from the seven council leaders said: "We have seen cases where people with symptoms have tested, then pulled out and influenced others before they could get results-in-app and self-centered behavior.

The statement warned businesses to help NHS test and trace contact programs if they do not record customer details.

"We all have to do our bit and if we are to stop any possible other wave, we have to play our part," the leaders said.
