We're getting closer to new iPhones, and that means you should take some time to get ready.
Get ready for the iPhone 12 now, instead of waiting until the last minute. |
September Is known for the Qaddu Masala Laats, Grey Weather and New Phones ($699 on Amazon). This year, however, it seems we will have to wait a little longer for Apple's new phones.
Current rumors point to several new iPhone 12 models, with a new design (a black blue color!?), 5G connectivity and improved performance.
This year's launch is likely to take place in October, or possibly later, some extra time to prepare according to you. Below you can take some steps, and what you should do, take today to get ready for your next upgrade.
Triage your apps and photos
It's not a fun thing, I admit, but it's a must. Sit down and go through all of the apps installed on your phone, deleting any apps you use now. After that, go through the Pictures app and delete all random screen shots, photos and videos that you have held for some reason.
Your phone will feel less dirty, and you will free up storage space, and in turn, you will need to back up your phone. Another advantage is that it will take less time to restore your new iPhone when you are setting it up.
Make sure your phone is getting backed up
It's easy to ignore these messages that you know you're out of the storage space of iCloud and your phone isn't being backed up yet, but you want you to have a backup plan when it comes time to switch phones.
If you are out of the storage space of iCloud, you have a few options: pay for more storage, how to change or use your computer to make a backup.
We have a guide that runs through all these phone backup options, each with all the pros and cons of the option.
Don't wait for your new phone to show up before the backup. If you like me, you will set up your phone without being patient and without its restoration, causing headaches and in the end you will get more time.
The iPhone 12 will surely launch with iOS 14 already installed. |
Part of an upgrade program? Check your status
If you're using an upgrade program from Apple or your carrier, it's a good idea to check how many payments you've left before you're able to upgrade your iPhone.
I bought an iPhone 11 Pro Max on launch day through Apple's upgrade program, and I'm already eligible to upgrade because I've paid the required 12 monthly device. With the phone starting after 12 normal a few weeks, you may be in the same situation.
If you bought your phone from a carrier on a payment plan, sign in to your account or call customer support to check your eligibility. If you purchased your phone through Apple's upgrade program, you can use the Apple Store app on your phone to check your situation.
Depending on your current iPhone upgrade, you can upgrade before you can make another payment (or more). Knowing that now the money will help you budget for future upgrades.
The new iPhone will start with iOS 14, currently in Beta. The update has many of the new and interesting features that will officially make it this autumn too. My personal favorite yet? The new design home screen, complete with a budget.
