India on Saturday became the third country to cross the grim milestone of 4,000,000 COVID-19 cases, as it continues to struggle against the infection with no end in sight.
India added 86,432 cases of the new virus on Saturday, setting a global daily record, according to data from the federal health ministry.
Infections have increased across the country, including the capital New Delhi and major states of Maharashtra and Karnataka.
The leap of more than 4 million cases comes just 13 days after India reached 3 million cases, with the last 1 million increase accelerating to more than 100 days.
India has been loading the world's largest daily corona virus case for almost a month now, as its government is pushing to open businesses to revive its fast-contracting economy.
The death toll from COVID-19 in India rose to more than 1,000 on Saturday, reaching 69,561.
